Dear Euclid members and coleagues,

First of all, I wish to thank Professor Ragnar Audson who kindly and fruitfully acted as Euclid chair in two terms. During his Chairmanship Euclid has achieved very good results towards the internationalisation of the profession and the discipline.

It is a great privilege and honour for me to act as the Chair of the Board and I will do my best to make Euclid more active and its members networking not only through the Euclid’s website and interpersonal correspondence but possibly also through new programmes which I would like to introduce.

My intention is to intensify communication between European LIS schools, especially between the so called Nortern and Southern countries as well as propose several new modes of professional meetings and campaignes.

With a help of Board members who kindly supported my approach, I would like to invite all of you to join the Board in planning our work in forthcoming years regardless of future changes in the governing bodies of Euclid.

First of all, may I invite you to join the Round table on Euclid vision, plans and obstacles, during the BOBCATSSSS Conference in Porto, Portugal (January 27-31, 2009)

I propose several items for further disscussion:

  • Should we discuss ways and modes of the continuation of LIS Curriculum Guidelines development based upon Euclid’s book?
  • Should we establish regular annual meeting focusing on new trends in the field and possibilities in better connecting its members in proposing EU and other founders’ calls for joint research projects and educational programs?
  • Should Euclid be more active in supporting students and LIS departments involved in BOBCATSSS conferences?

Personaly, as a Chair I will welcome assistance of Euclid members and its Board members especially in raising Euclid initiatives outside Europe, namely those ones related to our plans that might help strengthening Euclid’s events.

During my term I would like to pay more attention on recruiting more LIS departments in Euclid matters and make stronger liaisons with Archives and Museology educational units.

Finally, I would like to strengthen liaisons with ALISE and I-schools movement in US as well as with IFLA’s SET.

I might be able to organize the first Round Table/Conference of Euclid members in October 2009 in Zadar, if approved by Euclid members either in person at Bobcatsss meeting or through written approval.

Our secretary Mr Franjo Pehar, University of Zadar and myself will continue to maintain Euclid website which should also provide links to major library and information science activities in Europe and wider.

I hope that you will join the Board by supporting these initial plans and adding to it new ideas. I also hope that all of you will continue your good work on promoting the exchange of research and good practice amongst L&IS professionals, which is Euclid’s aim, and foster Euclid sponsored sessions at major European conferences.

Looking forward to our future cooperation and Euclid’s development, I will look forward to you contribution.

With best regards,

Professor Tatjana Aparac-Jelušić
